I'm perplexed over comments regarding airport closeness - yes, a quick easy trip (to the displeasure of cab drivers) and I don't believe I saw or heard one plane out on the balcony, other than a jet fighter once. Most noise came from people enjoying the pool/Tiki bar, or the foghorns of big boats passing the marina. I stayed in the North Tower, as I'd heard this is the spot for a balcony with Marina view. Indeed. Lovely spot to sit, reflect, prepare for meetings. It's next door to the Convention Center, one small hill and the South Tower separating me from the SDCC. Across the trolley tracks is the Gaslamp Quarter, great for nightlife, dining, walking and shopping. There are some stores, including snacks and sundries right in the hotel. Also in the hotel, a few restaurants (never got to except room service, which was quick, friendly, and passable). North Tower rooms are older, the trade-off for choosing a balcony room. I'm told the N. Towers have more modern, tech-y amenities (like LCD TV's) and they are slightly closer to the convention center and gateway to Gaslamp. Beds were comfy, rooms had safes and decent coffee-makers. Charge for Internet, though. I heard complaints about parking (as usual during conventions) but San DIego is easy to get around by cab or public transportation. (I took a bus to the Zoo, an easy day trip.) One can dine on the water, at Roy's (actually, I did eat there - top shelf seafood - it's out on top of the pool and on the marina, 2 levels. There's also a park with little shoppes, cookies, fireworks, mimes, etc. For mostly-business, it was a fine place to be, no complaints- except thin wall to a connecting room. grrr But that view!

We traveled to San Diego to celebrate our wedding anniversary; we will return to San Diego but never will stay at this hotel again. The customer service was poor, the rooms were adequate but the bathrooms were small and not clean. The television had a continuous buzzing noise, and we often did not have hot water. The restaurants were low quality, and the large windows had broken seals, making it difficult to enjoy a marina view. When we expressed our discontent and asked to be released from the remainder of our reservation, we were refused. The view from our balcony was beautiful - but we will never stay here again.

Got stranded because of a flight cancellation and they gave us their "distress" rate of $* for a night, acting as though they were doing us a huge favor and looked upon us as refugees. Not friendly at all. Nor was the $* per night self-parking tab. When I asked if they could give us a distress rate for parking (we checked in at 7:30 pm/ out at 5:00 am) the desk clerk informed me that I should be grateful for the room rate and pay the parking without complaint because "our room rates are very high normally." We'd just stayed a week at the Bahia Resort which was fabulous but that's another review. BTW, today I checked Travelocity's rate for this hotel for an overnight Monday stay (same situation as my recent stay). The rate is $99. I see no reason to go back to a snooty desk clerk, mediocre room and exorbitant parking fee.

Disappointed Stay

We travel quite often and aren't picky travelers but this hotel really disappointed us. The views were fantastic, staff OK but we had to pay * dollars a night for parking (which is expected) but had to hunt for a spot every time we left, it made leaving the hotel and knowing of our return to be stressful. People were parking on sidewalks, red zones, etc. it was horrible! You are just far enough from downtown that you can't walk, so driving is a must. My other complaint were the elevators, only two of the four were running and they took forever! The mini elevator would stop on every floor even if nobody was around. No monitoring of the pool and the jacuzzi was overrun by kids throwing balls and splashing. Actual room was typical, the balcony was awesome, stay up higher to see amazing views! Our door didn't close all the way unless you pulled or pushed on it. Felt like the lady next door talking on her phone was in our room. Free gym was a great perk, bar was expensive for not amazing drinks. We will be staying elsewhere on our next trip out to San Diego.
